To get to this Winery we need to travel across one of Salta´s most spectacular views ” Quebrada de las Conchas”, which makes the three hours journey worthy from the very first moment.
Every time you look around, you will be amazed by the immensity of the place. It is hard to imagine that wine grows in such a rough and high area. This is the result of work, passion and perseverance.
Arriving to Cafayate we will be awaited at Finca El Retiro by our hosts, take a walk through their vineyards and entertain us with a picturesque picnic.
There, we will be slowly introduced into the world of wine, tasting a kind of wine according to our menu of the day.
In the afternoon we will get to know the winery. A few blocks from Finca el Retiro, in the heart of Cafayate is the old Bodega el Porvenir, completely refurnished and renovated.
There, we will visit its halls, we will learn the secrets of its production and taste its elegant wines. Paul Hobbs is one of the enologist of this winery, which guarantees the quality of its wines.
“The Salta winery El Porvenir de Cafayate obtained excellent punctuation in three of its wines in the latest issue of The Wine Advocate Magazine directed by the prestigious American critic Robert Parker.
Laborum Single Vineyard Malbec 2011 reached 92 points, one of the highest ratings awarded to a Salta winery in this variety. El Porvenir 2006, wine cellar icon, and Laborum Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 received 90 points each.
This wine is made with grapes from the Río Seco Estate. It has been aged between 10 and 12 months in first and second use oak barrels; 70% in French oak, 30% American oak. It has a guard of up to 10 years, in correct conditions of storage.
“We are a familiar winery and this is what defines our winemaking… El Porvenir de Cafayate is the luxury of thinking long term…Our wines are an invitation to travel in a journey of improvement and discovery that we undertook a long time ago, here in Cafayate. Undoubtedly, our place in the world.”
The Winery
In our winery, located in the center of Cafayate, the past and the future live in perfect harmony.
In order to preserve the quality of our grapes, we implemented a double selection line so we can then transport only the best grapes to tanks to be fermented. In our vinification process, we aim to care for the grapes and waste as little as possible, using gravity as the method to maintain their purity.
In American and French oak barrels we let rest our wines, selected in quality and origin. Proud representatives of the essence of Cafayate, we make our wines of height Altitude El Porvenir, Laborum and Amauta, with roots in the future of Cafayate.
On the second day of our program you will have the morning free, so you can enjoy it at your own pace, walking through Finca el Retiro, visiting the village, or maybe relaxing in comfort.
At noon we will have a typical Argentinean barbecue in the house of the Finca and at the end we will return to the city of Salta, where we will conclude our tour.
